DEAL-Contracts

What are the DEAL-Contracts?

The DEAL-Contracts are specially negotiated agreements with the publishers Wiley, Springer Nature and Elsevier, which are supposed to make open access publishing easier and more cost-effective. The university signed all three contracts. The individual contracts differ in terms of their services, but they all use a so-called publish and read process. This means that the journals included in the contracts can also be read via the university. For more detailed information on the contracts with the publishers, please read the corresponding articles. You can find more information on the DEAL-Contracts here.

DEAL-Contract with Wiley

The DEAL contract with Wiley enables members of Wismar University of Applied Sciences to publish Open Access in more than 1,300 fee-based journals (hybrid publishing). You receive a 20% discount when publishing in one of the more than 600 pure Open Access journals. The university and all its members also receive access to almost all journal contents on the Wiley Online Library platform.

DEAL-Contract with Springer Nature

Authors from all over Germany will be able to publish hybrid Open Access in over 2,000 Springer Nature subscription journals. For the pure Open Access journals of SpringerOpen and BioMed Central with over 500 titles, the publication fees are reduced by 20% and the price increase is contractually limited by APCs (Open Access article processing charges). The university and all its members also receive access to almost all the content of the journals on the Springer Nature platform.

DEAL-Contract with Elsevier

Through the DEAL contract with Elsevier, members of Wismar University of Applied Sciences with the status submitting corresponding author can publish Open Access in more than 2,500 Elsevier journals. This also includes the journals of the Cell Press and The Lancet brands. There is a 20% discount on the publication fees of Elsevier Fully Gold Open Access journals and a 15% discount on the list prices of the Fully Gold Cell Press and The Lancet journals. Furthermore, the university and all its members have access to almost all content of the journals of Elsevier, Cell Press and The Lancet.

IMPORTANT Information regarding funding

In the DEAL contracts, authors are falsely given the impression that no publication fees are incurred because the university participates in these contracts. However, there are still fees for the university. Authors must bear these discounted costs and submit a declaration of assumption of costs prior to verification. The university has set up a publication fund; if necessary, clarify whether funding can be arranged through this. The university only covers the costs for the read component of these contracts.
